Output Editor AFPTV MENA, Dubai

Starting date: as soon as possible

Deadline for applications: March 20, 2026

Location: Dubai, UAE

Middle East & North Africa (MENA) region

THE JOB

As part of AFPTV’s global video operations and in the context of a fast-evolving international news environment, AFP is seeking an Output Editor for its Middle East and North Africa (MENA) desk.

Based in AFP's new regional hub in Dubai, the Output Editor will be responsible for overseeing the editorial quality, speed and efficiency of AFPTV’s video production from the region, covering conflict, international diplomacy, breaking news and major global events.

Working in close coordination with AFP’s global video leadership, you will play a central role in ensuring that AFPTV’s output meets the Agency’s highest editorial standards while responding to the expectations of an international client base.

Due to its time zone, the new Dubai video desk will play a key role in the global editorial shift, contributing to round-the-clock video coverage.

You will supervise a team of video editors responsible for editing, packaging and delivering video content in real time. You will ensure strong coordination with AFP text, photo and live video teams to deliver integrated, cross-platform coverage.

You will also edit and produce news videos and feature packages. Daily work involves editing live feeds and footage received from correspondents in the region, sourcing user-generated content (UGC) and videos from external providers, translating video dopesheets, compiling archives, file footage, and stockshots. The role requires strong editorial judgement and sharp editing skills, particularly for short-format videos.

You will be responsible for editorial decision-making, including story selection, prioritisation, angles and formats, particularly during breaking news, major political developments and live events.

You will ensure that all video output strictly complies with AFP’s editorial charter, ethics rules, verification standards and Stylebook, and that accuracy, balance and impartiality are always maintained.

You will report directly to the regional video editor-in-chief, and her deputy.

You will closely monitor social media and strictly adhere to the Agency's guidelines on social media activity.

You will contribute to the fight against disinformation by working with factcheckers in the network, developing skills in the various methods of online verification, now indispensable for all journalism.

You will also play a role in external representation, working in coordination with commercial teams to maintain strong relationships with key clients, respond to editorial feedback and contribute to discussions on video products and formats.

On the managerial side, you will oversee team organisation, shift planning and day-to-day operations. You will support staff development and conduct professional reviews.

As a general rule, you commit to respecting AFP's ethics charter as well as all the editorial guidelines in force and the AFP Stylebook.

You must be ready to work a wide range of hours, including early mornings and late nights, as well as weekends and bank holidays.

In an ever-changing media environment, the nature of the job could evolve in line with coverage demands and the requirements of an increasingly diverse client base.

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage editorial and operational responsibilities simultaneously.

  • Proven experience in video journalism, newsroom editing or broadcast production, preferably within an international news organization.

  • Demonstrated leadership and people-management skills in a fast-paced newsroom environment.

  • Excellent editorial judgment, with a strong understanding of Middle East, North Africa and international news.

  • Solid knowledge of video production workflows, live coverage and digital distribution.

  • Ability to remain calm and decisive under pressure.

  • Native-level English with fluency in Arabic a significant advantage. Knowledge of French or another language a plus.
