THE JOB
AFP TV is seeking a motivated, dedicated Video Journalist to cover news, features and sports in Kenya, with occasional reporting missions in the other 13 countries covered by the East Africa bureau.
Candidates must have a strong track record of coming up with original story ideas and formulating pitches of interest to our clients in the broadcast sector and the growing digital sector.
The role involves assisting the video coordinator in organising coverage. Tasks include subbing and translating dopesheets, editing and adapting features, recording and editing live feeds, sourcing UGC and providing training and feedback when necessary to video contributors.
You will have to maintain the credibility and reliability of our coverage and respect for the agency's editorial policy and copyright guidelines. You should be familiar with using social media as a news-gathering tool, and adept at applying AFP’s editorial guidelines concerning the use of UGC.
The job requires flexibility in terms of working hours. You need to be available, when necessary, to work evenings and weekends and to travel, both within and outside the country.
In an ever-changing media environment, the nature of the job could evolve in line with coverage demands and the requirements of an increasingly diverse client base.
