Gaza journalists for AFP win video award for 'powerful' war coverage

 

Gaza video correspondents Belal Alsabbagh and Youssef Hassouna on Thursday won a Rory Peck award for their "powerful" coverage of the brutal war in the Palestinian territory for Agence France-Presse.

 

The prize has been awarded since 1995 in memory of video journalist Rory Peck, who was killed in Moscow in 1993, to highlight the work of freelance video journalists.

‘Inside Gaza’ documentary project wins two awards at Sunny Side of the Doc Festival

The documentary project Inside Gaza, co-produced by FACTSTORY and AFP, was awarded the ‘Best Global Issues Pitch’ at the 35th Sunny Side of the Doc Festival in La Rochelle on 25 June.


The project also received the special AJD Industry Days Award, which includes 2 accreditations to attend the third edition of the Al Jazeera Documentary (AJD) Industry Days, scheduled from 14 to 16 September 2024, in Sarajevo.

AFP photographer Olivier Morin receives honourable mention at the Siena Awards in Italy

Paris based photographer Olivier Morin received an honourable mention at the Siena Awards on Saturday for a photograph showing fish trapped in a plastic bag.


The photo was taken near Pietarsaari, Finland, on May 3rd 2023, during the spring ice melt.

The Siena International Photo Awards (SIPA) is a prestigious photography competition open to professional and amateur photographers worldwide.

Ben Stansall awarded at the BPPA Awards (British Press Photographer of the Year Awards)

AFP photographer Ben Stansall, who is 41 and became a London staff photographer in 2011, has won first prize in the "sport action" category of the British Press Photographers' Association Photographer of the Year awards.  

This is a competition for photographs taken for and used by British media.

Ernesto Benavides wins first prize at the Sony World Photography Awards 2024

AFP Lima-based photographer Ernesto Benavides has won the first place of the Latin America Professional Award at the Sony World Photography Awards 2024 with his series called Captives.


The initiative, set up in collaboration with Sony Latin America, celebrates dynamic and inspiring photographic work currently created in the region.

AFP awarded at WHNPA's "The Eyes of History" 2024 Contest

Four AFP photographers covering the White House won thirteen awards at The Eyes of History 2024 contest organized by the White House News Photographers Association. The WHNPA recognized the work of those photographers working in Washington covering politics and news; the winners were selected among 4,500 images and 16 categories.

3 Merit of Excellence entries for AFP in Hong Kong's Press Photographers Association

AFP photographer Philip Fong and freelancer Bertha Wang were awarded "Merit of Excellence" achievements by the Hong Kong Press Photographers Association's annual competition earlier this month.


The Hong Kong-based association was established in 1989, today represents more than 100 photographers working across the city and beyond.
