AFP photographers honoured at the World Sports Photography Awards

The 2025 edition of the World Sports Photography Awards has recognised the work of five AFP photographers on Thursday, 9 January.

The World Sport Photography Awards spotlights the best images taken by the top sports photographers. With images from over 60 different sports, spanning elite to grass-root disciplines, the World Sports Photography Awards tells compelling stories of the emotion, passion, athleticism, and focus that are at the heart of sport. Now in its sixth edition, the World Sports Photography Awards are the only global awards for sport photography. Judged by leading figures from sport, media, photography, brand and creative, the competition was designed to recognise and celebrate incredible images and the photographers who take them.

Jérôme Brouillet - Aquatic - Gold - "Golden Moment"

A photograph of Brazilian surfer Gabriel Medina, which captures an incredible moment where athlete, spectacle and photographer come together in perfect harmony. The image was taken by Tahiti-based French Photographer Jérôme Brouillet on the third day of the Surfing event at the 2024 Olympic Games in Teahupo’o, French Polynesia.
