After a three-year hiatus, the “Marai Photo Award” becomes the “Marai Photo Grant” in 2025. The award is organised by Agence France-Presse in honour of Shah Marai, former photo chief at AFP in Kabul. Shah Marai, who was an inspiration for Afghan photographers throughout his career, was killed in the line of duty at the age of 41 in a suicide attack on April 30, 2018 in Kabul.

The Europe Prize rewards the photo of the earthquake in Turkey, which happened in February 2023. Adem Altan is also in the running for the global World Press, which will be announced on April 18th.

Fabrice Fries, CEO of Agence France-Presse, was elected as the new President of the European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA), for a two-year mandate, during the organisation’s General Assembly held in Paris on Thursday, September 14th, 2023.
