Phil Chetwynd was named Global News Director of Agence France-Presse (AFP) in January 2019. A British national, he previously served as the Agency's Global Editor-in-Chief at its Paris headquarters.
With a journalism career spanning over 25 years, Phil Chetwynd holds a degree in media and languages. Before joining AFP in 1996, he gained valuable experience in the British regional press. As a seasoned reporter within AFP's global network, Chetwynd has worked in the Middle East, Europe, and Asia, and has undertaken missions in more than 20 countries, including Afghanistan, Pakistan, North Korea, Israel, and the United States.
Between 2002 and 2012, he was stationed at AFP's Asia-Pacific headquarters in Hong Kong, where he held the position of Regional Editor-in-Chief.
