Spéos and AFP renew their photojournalism training partnership after a successful first year

Following a first year marked by student commitment, high-quality teaching, and outstanding projects, AFP and Spéos, the international photography school, are pleased to announce the extension of their partnership for the 2025–2026 academic year.

Launched in September 2024, this pioneering course enabled a cohort of students from around the world to train at the highest level of photojournalism, alongside AFP teams and Spéos instructors. With a curriculum combining journalistic rigour, intensive practice and real-world immersion, the programme has lived up to expectations. Its success confirms the relevance of a partnership born from both institutions’ shared ambition to prepare the next generation of photojournalists for the challenges of contemporary news.

Building on this success, Spéos and AFP are continuing the initiative with a second intake starting in September 2025. The structure of the programme remains unchanged: an intensive 10-month course taught in English, with four days of classes at Spéos and one immersion day per week within AFP’s newsroom.

Students will benefit from:

  • supervision by industry professionals (photojournalists, editors, editors-in-chief),
  • exclusive masterclasses led by renowned photographers from AFP’s global network,
  • practical workshops and real-world assignments,
  • personalised guidance throughout the year.

“This first year has exceeded our expectations – thanks to the students’ dedication and the fruitful exchanges between Spéos and AFP,” said Pierre-Yves Mahé, President of Spéos. “We’re delighted to renew the programme, more convinced than ever of its role in fostering a new generation of photojournalists: skilled, ambitious and grounded in the realities of the field.”

Marielle Eudes, Director of Special Photo Projects at AFP, added: “Training the photojournalists of tomorrow is a core commitment for us. This course offers unique insight into how visual news is produced, at the heart of one of the world’s leading news agencies.”

Applications now open for the 2025–2026 intake

The course is open to candidates holding at least a two-year higher education degree, with a good level of English. Admission remains selective: 15 places are available. Applications must be submitted via the Spéos website and include a CV, cover letter, and portfolio.
