AFP’s financial results 2025: positive net profit for the seventh straight year despite a first decline in commercial sales since 2018

AFP’s board approved the 2025 accounts at its meeting of April 16, 2026.

The Agency’s commercial sales declined by 2.2 percent (-4.5 million euros) compared to 2024 at constant exchange rates, to reach 200.3 million euros.

The Agency was hit especially hard by decisions taken by the new US administration at the start of 2025, with contracts like Voice of America ending, as well as Meta’s decision to stop financing factchecking in the United States.

The income derived from the State’s compensation for AFP’s General Interest Mission rose, as laid out in the 2024-2028 Ways and Means contract, by one million euros in 2025 to reach 120 million euros.

The Agency’s total turnover therefore came to 320.3 million euros, a drop of one percent compared to 2024 (-3.4 million euros).

Savings measures undertaken earlier in the year enabled AFP to cap the rise in operating costs to 1.1 percent compared to 2024, again at constant exchange rates.

The consolidated net profit was 0.1 million euros at real rates.

The Agency’s debt reduction continued at the expected rate: long-term debt was 50.2 million euros at the start of 2017. It was 14.5 million at the start of 2026 and should be zero at the end of 2028.

At the start of 2026, the war in the Middle East has of course increased uncertainty for our clients in the region.

Given the difficulties faced by its media clients, the Agency has proposed an ambitious reform of its structure and its expatriation system to adjust its cost base to the trend in its commercial sales and to safeguard its financial
stability.
