The AFP Fact Check video playlist “How to Verify Information Online” has won the 17th Digital Media Awards Europe in the category ‘Best Fact Checking Project.’
As part of the Hungarian project against disinformation, Lakmusz-HDMO, AFP will participate in an awareness week at the French Institute in Budapest from April 15th to 19th.
For the second year in a row, AFP will be back at the biggest innovation event in Latin America.
The Web Summit Rio, taking place from April 15th to 18th, will bring together key figures in the technology and innovation sectors, alongside industry executives. The event will host discussions on topics ranging from the influence of artificial intelligence on finance and creativity to breakthroughs in design and emerging initiatives within the renewable energies sector.
AFP had a significant presence at the 2024 International Journalism Festival in Perugia, Italy, with several representatives scheduled to speak during the event from 17th to 21st April.
AFP and the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines held an exhibition "Romeo Gacad on Assignment" in Manila from March 20-22, to pay tribute to the legendary AFP photographer, who died in 2021.
The exhibition features a selection of 12 photos taken by Romy during his decades-long career with AFP, including his famous shots of Ben Johnson crossing the finish line in the 100m sprint of the Seoul Olympics, and an Afghan fighter during the hunt for Osama bin Laden in the days after 9/11.
The French Institute of Greece (IFG) will present from March 20th to 30th the photo exhibition by Thomas Coex, "From Athens to Paris, 20 Years of Olympic Games."
Photo editors from AFP's London bureau were alerted on Sunday to alterations on an image released by Kensington Palace of the Princess of Wales and her children.
Following discussions, AFP and a group of international news agencies deemed these modifications to be in violation of the ethical standards of the profession. As a result, they collectively agreed to remove the photo from their distribution platforms.
The AFP Fact Check video playlist “How to Verify Information Online” (and versions in French and Spanish) have won third place in the 2024 Global Media Awards, organised by the International News Media Association (INMA).
