AFP and Xinhua have signed an agreement on mobiles
AFP will supply the Chinese news agency Xinhua with photos for its multimedia telco products in the fast growing Chinese mobile market, under an agreement signed by the two agencies.
‘This is an important step forward in AFP’s penetration of the vast China market’, AFP chairman Emmanuel Hoog said.
Hoog and his Xinhua counterpart Li Congjun witnessed the signing of the contract at a ceremony in Paris late Thursday.
Under the deal, Xinhua will use AFP’s international photo production in its telco products for mobile phones, tablets and other wireless devices.
Xinhua already distributes AFP photographs to clients in the traditional media in the strictly controlled Chinese news market.
The Xinhua president Li Congjun said that the agreement ‘shows that cooperation between our agencies never ceases to increase.’ ‘The future of international agencies rests on increasing cooperation between them,’ he added. ‘There are still new areas for them to explore.’
Under a recent deal, AFP sells Xinhua photographs globally via its Imageforum platform.
AFP distributes more than 2,500 pictures per day to newspapers, magazines and new media clients around the world
