AFP digital investigation reporters Mary Kulundu and James Okong’o won the coveted “Fact-Check of the Year” award at the Africa Facts Summit, held in Mauritius on October 5-6.
AFP’s East Africa Photo Coordinator, Luis Tato has won the Photo category at the ‘Covering Climate Now’ Awards for his remarkable photography series taken at the Reteti Elephant Sanctuary in Kenya.
Two AFP photographers, Jeff Pachoud and Oli Scarff, have been awarded in different categories at Istanbul Photo Awards 2023.
Jeff Pachoud won 1st prize in the Story Sports category for his series on the 2022 Tour de France for women.
Three AFP photographers received an honourable mention at the 10th edition of POY Latam 2023, held in Quito, Ecuador, from 25 to 28 May.
"Human rights" category
In the "Human Rights" category, photojournalist Martin Bernetti received a mention for his essay La última frontera ("The Last Frontier").
AFP photographer Oli Scarff was honoured at the AIPS (International Sports Press Association) Sport Media Awards 2022.
Oli Scarff won the Photography Portfolio award for his shots of USA's coach Andrea Fuentes recovering swimmer Anita Alvarez from the bottom of the pool during an incident in the women's solo free artistic swimming finals, during the World Aquatics Championships at the Alfred Hajos Swimming Complex in Budapest, Hungary on June 22, 2022.
AFP's exceptional reporting on "The Defiant Women of Afghanistan" won first place in the Breaking News (English) category at the 2023 Human Rights Press Awards.
AFP Bangkok-based photographer Lillian Suwanrumpha has won the Award of Excellence in the Portrait Series category of the Pictures of the Year Asia 2023.
The Swiss Press Photo has honoured AFP photographer Fabrice Coffrini with the first prize in the News category.
Patrick T. Fallon received 7 awards during the 2022 Press Photographers Association of Greater Los Angeles Annual Contest (PPAGLA) edition.
2nd and 3rd prize in the Feature category
2nd prize for the picture of a migrant who just crossed the wall at the US-Mexico border in El Paso, Texas, on December 19, 2022.
The World Press Photo Foundation has announced the regional winners of the renowned photo contest for the 2023 edition. This regional format brings together a regional and global jury that selects the winners from each region in four categories: Single Images, Series, Long-Term Projects, and Free Format. Tomás Cuesta, freelance photographer, was awarded a prize for AFP in Latin America.
