Italy's leading news agency, ANSA, signs an agreement to buy AFP's international news service in video, photo and text.
The 31st edition of the international photojournalism festival Visa pour l’Image takes place from august 31 to September 15, 2019 in Perpignan, with exhibitions of works by AFP photographers Guillermo Arias and Ed Jones at the Couvent des Minimes.
AFP, along with other international media, has joined a BBC initiative to collectively define shared principles for collaborative action to fight misinformation. Other partners involved in the project are The European Broadcasting Union (EBU), Facebook, Financial Times, First Draft, Google, The Hindu, The Wall Street Journal, CBC/Radio Canada, Microsoft, Reuters and The Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism.
Photographer Guillermo Arias has won the Visa d'or News award, the highest prize given at the "Visa pour l'Image" festival. The 31st occasion of the world's leading photojournalism event came to its conclusion in Perpignan on saturday. The prize recognise Guillermo Arias's work which focuses on the migrant caravans in Central America.

AFP photographer Cristina Quicler has won the 35th Andalusian Journalism Award in the photography category for her picture “Rocío Chico, traslado de la Virgen del Rocío”, awarded by the Junta de Andalucía (Regional Government of Andalucia).
The Comprova Project, a media consortium in Brazil of which AFP has been a member since 2018, has won the Press Freedom Award 2021 awarded by the National Association of Newspapers (ANJ). This award is shared with the Consórcio de Veículos de Imprensa, since both initiatives were recognized for the crucial role of journalism and cooperation between agencies, fighting digital misinformation through fact-checking.
