The sands of society are shifting on an almost daily basis, the ‘traditional’ French way of life appears to be on the way out. Things that used to define France appear to have gone: the welfare state is losing steam, industry and agriculture are both suffering. The far-right claims that the country isn’t French enough and has become too multicultural. Even debating the place of Islam has become a dangerous no-go zone. France, it seems, is going through “a crise d’identité” -- an identity crisis.

Starting April 28 and until July 31, 2022, these carefully selected AFP photos will be on display at three Alliance Française Hong Kong centers (Wan Chai, Jordan, and Shatin) and online at the artplacer virtual gallery.

At a time when the need for mutual understanding in Europe has never been so great, a pioneering digital news service – “A European Perspective” – is stepping up its efforts to offer citizens multilingual coverage of major stories by drawing on content produced by 12 public service newsrooms.

The festival will exhibit "the most moving pictures" taken by two reporters who witnessed the recent historic events in Afghanistan: Shah Marai, Chief Photo of the Kabul bureau, who was killed during a suicide attack in 2018 in Kabul, and his succcessor

Photographs from eleven AFP photographers picturing the Russian invasion in Ukraine will be showcased on the Main Bar & Lounge walls.

French-Malagasy journalist Borgia, 37, who has worked in the country for more than a decade, received the prize at a ceremony in London for her AFP story 'Eating Shoes - Surviving Madagascar's Famine'.

The film tells the story of three environmental crusaders facing betrayal and murder as they battle to save an island paradise famed as the Philippines "last ecological frontier".

Oli had just finished photographing Anita Alvarez's programme and was about to select his photos for transmission when he saw the swimmer's coach, Andrea Fuentes, dive into the pool.

"I first saw the coach diving into the pool and it surprised me. I then looked at the control screen on my remote control box at the bottom of the pool to see what was happening underwater. And that's when I realised that Anita Alvarez was sinking. The next few seconds were really upsetting because I didn't know what state she was in".
