Der frühere englische Fußball-Nationalspieler Andros Townsend hat einen kuriosen Unfall mit einer Platzwalze unverletzt überstanden. Der 35-Jährige, mittlerweile in Thailand aktiv, wärmte sich am Samstag vor dem Spiel seines Vereins PT Prachuap in Pattani auf, als der Fahrer eines Walzenfahrzeugs die Kontrolle verlor. Townsend geriet unter die schwere Walze, der Fahrer stoppte erst, als die Beine des Spielers eingeklemmt waren.
Auf Videoaufnahmen, die sich inzwischen im Internet verbreitet haben, ist zu sehen, wie Townsend versucht, die Walze von sich wegzudrücken. Der Fahrer springt rasch heraus und hilft dem Profi. Townsend, der im Laufe seiner wechselhaften Karriere auch für Crystal Palace und den FC Everton spielte, nahm den Vorfall später mit Humor.
