The UN reports widespread cases of sexual violence against Ukrainian prisoners of war and Ukrainian civilian detainees held by the Russian Federation authorities. Hundreds of civilians and prisoners have been subjected to sexual violence and torture -- overwhelmingly by Moscow's forces -- since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022. "Almost three-quarters of the prisoner of war survivors and almost half of the civilian detainee survivors held by the Russian Federation experienced sexual violence more than once," explains Danielle Bell, Head of UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine during a press conference.
