أكد رئيس الوزراء الكندي مارك كارني أمام البرلمان الأوروبي في ستراسبورغ الخميس أن التحالف الذي تسعى كندا والاتحاد الأوروبي إلى بنائه سيكون "منارة للديموقراطيات"، ولا يهدف إلى "الهيمنة على الآخرين".
وقال كارني "لسنا بصدد الهيمنة على الآخرين"، مضيفا أن "التحالف بين كندا والاتحاد الأوروبي سيكون منارة للديموقراطيات الأخرى. تحالف لا يُحدد انطلاقا مما نعارضه، بل مما نؤمن به: الحرية، والتضامن، والازدهار، والاستدامة".
