Former Malaysian leader Najib Razak, serving a six-year jail term for his role in the country's 1MDB corruption scandal, has been granted house arrest, subject to the payment of a 50 million ringgit fine, officials said on Friday.
King Sultan Ibrahim "has granted a conditional pardon" to Najib, "allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until 23 August 2028," lawyers from Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's office said.
The conditional pardon was "subject to the payment of a fine of fifty million Malaysian Ringgit ($12.3 million), they said in a statement.
