lensEU - Bringing European Stories Closer to Citizens
LensEU (Localised European News Service) is an innovative European media project bringing together eight leading news organisations to make European issues more tangible, understandable and relevant for citizens across the continent.
Every week, lensEU publishes a podcast (on Tuesdays) and a newsletter (on Fridays) exploring topics that directly affect everyday life, from housing and the green transition to inflation and disinformation. These stories are produced and distributed in five languages.
Content is created in English and then adapted into German, Polish, Latvian and Croatian, giving audiences across Europe access to a shared perspective on the same topic in their own language. To ensure a genuinely pan-European approach, editorial leadership rotates among the project partners, with each organisation taking the lead on different topics.
Co-funded by the European Union and running until spring 2028, lensEU will produce more than 300 pieces of content over two years. All podcasts and newsletters are available free of charge via The Audio Marketplace website and through the partners’ own platforms.
AFP acts as a technical partner within the project, overseeing the management and development of both the project website and The Audio Marketplace (TAM), a European platform designed to facilitate the distribution and visibility of audio content across Europe.
TAM was established in 2025 as part of a previous EU-funded project led by AFP. Together with fellow technical partner ENEX, AFP contributes English-language audio extracts sourced from video reports on topics covered by the consortium, helping support the production of the weekly podcasts.
AFP also helps increase the visibility of LensEU content through the expertise of its subsidiary MediaConnect, a specialist in content distribution. Every Friday, MediaConnect publishes the LensEU newsletter on its website and circulates it to a network of around 1,000 specialised journalists, extending the project’s reach and impact across Europe.
