Khmer-language fact-check reporter and editor

AFP is seeking a fact check reporter and an editor with strong digital investigation and precise writing and editing skills in both English and Khmer to join its team reporting on disinformation across South East Asia.

The focus will be on Cambodia, and at least one of the two posts will be based in Phnom Penh.


The roles are an exciting opportunity to be a part of AFP's fast-growing fact-checking network, which has seen it take a leading role in the global fight against fake news.

The reporter position requires an agile journalist who can easily navigate online disinformation, whether that be on major social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, TikTok and discussion boards or encrypted chat apps.

The editor role requires a precise, detail-oriented editor with experience of digital verification techniques and tools, and the ability to easily detect fake news.

The roles also requires an ability to work in a fast-paced multimedia newsroom and meet tight deadlines.

While the positions will specialise in fact-checking, duties may also extend to other reporting roles in the bureau depending on the demands of the daily news coverage.

Candidates must have excellent English and be fluent in Khmer, while other regional languages would be an asset.
