Journalist - Warsaw

Starting date: November 1, 2025

Deadline for applications: August 17, 2025

Location: Warsaw - Europe region

THE JOB

AFP is looking for a driven anglophone reporter for its Warsaw Bureau. Candidates must speak fluent Polish and have some experience in journalism. French is helpful but not essential, as are other languages from the region such as Ukrainian, Belarusian or Russian.

Working together with two francophone journalists, you will cover news, enterprise and feature stories from Poland and the Baltic states of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia with the help of our network of stringers. You may be called to help the Ukraine/Russia team from time to time.

Your daily tasks will include reporting, writing, translating and editing and travel for top stories in the region may be required. The role may also require long working days, dictated by the news agenda, and will include working some weekends and public holidays.

You will work under the day-to-day supervision of the Warsaw News Editor and the Warsaw Hub Bureau Chief.

You should have a keen eye for the visual and multimedia aspect of coverage and coordinate with the photo, video and graphics departments. It is important to stress that all our journalists contribute to AFP’s newsgathering process in all formats, working for the common goal of reacting and high-quality multimedia journalism.

You will closely monitor social media and strictly adhere to the Agency's guidelines on social media activity.

You will contribute to the fight against misinformation by alerting digital investigation journalists to potential posts for debunking. You are trained in digital verification, now indispensable for all journalism. Online training is available here.

You commit to respecting AFP's ethics charter as well as all the editorial guidelines in force and in the Agency's style guide.

You must be ready to work a wide range of hours, including early mornings and late nights, as well as weekends.

In an ever-changing media environment, the nature of the job could evolve in line with coverage demands and the requirements of an increasingly diverse client base.
