Digital Investigation Journalist, Zagreb

Starting date: As soon as possible

Deadline for applications: February 17, 2023

Location: Zagreb

THE JOB

Agence France-Presse is looking for a Croatian-speaking journalist to join our fast-growing team tackling disinformation shared on social media.

You will be based in the AFP office in Zagreb and tackle misinformation circulating in Croatian. You will join AFP's digital verification team of around 140 fact checkers around the world and work particularly closely with our two Belgrade-based journalists to cover the region.

The job requires close monitoring of all social media platforms and an interest in online investigation. You need to be agile, resourceful and rigorous.

While writing up your own stories and investigations, you will also be required to adapt stories from other languages into Croatian. You will help us set up a Croatian website and work with our external partners in fighting disinformation.

We are offering a one-year renewable contract.

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • An excellent level of writing in Croatian is essential. As our working language is English, a good level of written and spoken English is necessary.

  • The position requires the ability to easily navigate and explore major social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, YouTube, and encrypted chat apps.

  • Some experience as a journalist is required, as well as the capacity to multi-task and adapt to developments.

  • Knowledge of digital verification techniques and tools is desirable but not essential as appropriate training will be provided.

  • While we work closely as a team, the role also requires a self-motivated and resourceful attitude toward tracking down and investigating harmful disinformation.

APPLICATION

To apply, email cinjenice@afp.com a CV and a cover letter in English of no more than 250 words explaining your motivation and suitability for the role.

AFP is committed to equal opportunities and greater diversity within its teams. We therefore encourage all applications in order to preserve the wealth of profiles, cultures and languages that constitute the strength of our network.
