A US-sanctioned oil tanker hijacked by Somali pirates last month has been rescued after being chased down and ambushed by security officers, officials in the semi-autonomous Puntland region told AFP on Friday.
"While they were anchored south of Garacad, a large ship used by Puntland ambushed Sibu 1 out at sea," a security official told AFP, speaking on condition of anonymity.
A statement by Puntland officials said one pirate was killed and four injured in the operation, while the crew was safe.
