AFP digital investigation reporters Mary Kulundu and James Okong’o won the coveted “Fact-Check of the Year” award at the Africa Facts Summit, held in Mauritius on October 5-6.
Three AFP photographers received an honourable mention at the 10th edition of POY Latam 2023, held in Quito, Ecuador, from 25 to 28 May.
"Human rights" category
In the "Human Rights" category, photojournalist Martin Bernetti received a mention for his essay La última frontera ("The Last Frontier").
AFP photographer Philip Fong and freelancer Bertha Wang were awarded "Merit of Excellence" achievements by the Hong Kong Press Photographers Association's annual competition earlier this month.
The Hong Kong-based association was established in 1989, today represents more than 100 photographers working across the city and beyond.
The documentary project Inside Gaza, co-produced by FACTSTORY and AFP, was awarded the ‘Best Global Issues Pitch’ at the 35th Sunny Side of the Doc Festival in La Rochelle on 25 June.
The project also received the special AJD Industry Days Award, which includes 2 accreditations to attend the third edition of the Al Jazeera Documentary (AJD) Industry Days, scheduled from 14 to 16 September 2024, in Sarajevo.
AFP received two Honourable Mentions at the prestigious Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA) Awards for its reporting on the mass exodus of Afghans from Pakistan and the arrival of desperate Rohingya refugees in Indonesia.
Four AFP photographers covering the White House won thirteen awards at The Eyes of History 2024 contest organized by the White House News Photographers Association. The WHNPA recognized the work of those photographers working in Washington covering politics and news; the winners were selected among 4,500 images and 16 categories.
Said Khatib was awarded the prestigious Mingote Prize on Thursday in Madrid, in the presence of King Felipe VI of Spain and Queen Letizia, for a photograph taken in the Gaza Strip in October 2023.
The Inter-American Press Association has announced the winners of its Awards for Excellence in Journalism.
AFP's multimedia documentary, "Nothing is Impossible: The Odyssey of a Migrant from Venezuela to the United States" won in the "Claudio Paolillo" category for Migration Journalism.
AFP photographers Oli Scarff and Adrian Dennis have been awarded at the BPPA Press Photographer of the Year 2023.
Oli Scarff has been named Photographer of the Year and has won in the Arts & Entertainment category. He also received an honourable mention in the Sport (Away from the Action) category.
AFP Lima-based photographer Ernesto Benavides has won the first place of the Latin America Professional Award at the Sony World Photography Awards 2024 with his series called Captives.
