THE JOB
AFP is seeking an experienced television professional to work on its video desk in Dubai, which will handle the video production of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region in collaboration with the Paris desk.
The job consists of editing and producing news video and feature packages. Daily work involves editing live feeds and footage sent to the desk from correspondents in the region, sourcing UGC and videos from external providers, translating video dopesheets, as well as compiling archives, files, and stockshots. It requires sharp editing skills for short-format videos.
As a fluent Arabic speaker, you will be expected to edit and sometimes voice videos for the Arabic digital service.
You will report directly to the regional video editor-in-chief, her deputy, and the senior producer, as well as the regional editor-in-chief.
You will have to ensure the reliability of news covered and respect for the agency's editorial policy. You should be familiar with the issues involved in handling user-generated content and AFP’s guidelines concerning the use of UGC.
You will closely monitor social media and strictly adhere to the Agency's guidelines on social media activity.
You will contribute to the fight against disinformation by working with factcheckers in the network, developing skills in the various methods of online verification, now indispensable for all journalism. Online training is available here.
As a general rule, you commit to respecting AFP's ethics charter as well as all the editorial guidelines in force and the AFP Stylebook.
You must be ready to work a wide range of hours, including early mornings and late nights, as well as weekends and bank holidays.
