As an official partner of Global Fact 12, AFP will be represented by several members of its digital investigation teams, who will speak on a range of topics shaping the future of fact-checking.

More than 300 fact-checkers, 80 speakers, and 40 sessions are expected at this 12th edition, co-hosted with leading Brazilian fact-checking outlets including Aos Fatos, Estadão Verifica, Lupa, and UOL Confere.

This year’s agenda will tackle major issues such as disinformation, the impact of artificial intelligence, information integrity, and the ongoing challenges around media funding and sustainability. Notably, Brazilian Supreme Court justices Alexandre de Moraes and Cármen Lúcia will address the relationship between disinformation and the rule of law.

Several AFP team members will speak during the summit:

  • Julie Charpentrat, digital investigation editor-in-chief, will highlight the importance of archiving online content as part of rigorous fact-checking.
  • Denis Teyssou, editorial lead of the AFP Medialab, will present a joint initiative developed with dpa and the Wayback Machine to improve archiving tools for investigators.
  • Cecilia Sorgine, fact-Checking coordinator at AFP’s Rio bureau, will moderate a panel on political fact-checking and top-down disinformation, featuring representatives from FactCheck.org, Chequeado, and Estadão Verifica.
  • Nadia Nasanovsky, training coordinator for digital investigation in Montevideo, and Maria Clara Pestre, fact-checker at Rio, will lead a workshop on corporate greenwashing.
  • Marie Bohner, head of development and partnerships for digital investigation, will host a session on AI chatbots and the use of fact-checking data, alongside speakers from Lupa, FullFact, Duke Reporters Lab, and Aos Fatos.
