Stellantis and GreenYellow celebrate their flexible electrification project in Madrid, which is aimed at industrial decarbonization

20 Oct 2026 - 16:00

Press release from GreenYellow-Tuesday 20 October 2026.

• The project combines energy efficiency and electrification of final uses, local solar electricity production and battery storage, with integrated management of these different energy components in order to optimize the performance and flexibility of the industrial site.

• With a photovoltaic capacity of 12.4 MWp and 25 MWh of storage, this approach helps reduce the plant's emissions while strengthening the control and resilience of its energy system.

Stellantis and GreenYellow, an international partner in the energy sector and orchestrator of flexible electrification, held the official presentation of their joint project to sustainably transform the energy system of the Stellantis industrial plant in Madrid.

Gradually deployed over the past few months, the project combines energy efficiency and electrification of thermal uses, as well as local production of renewable electricity combined with energy storage. This approach allows the plant to improve the control of its energy consumption and costs, while reducing its emissions and strengthening its energy resilience.

The project includes, among other measures, the replacement of gas boilers with heat pumps, which will replace approximately 2.9 GWh of annual gas consumption and reduce the emissions associated with these thermal uses by 57%. It also incorporates 12.4 MWp of photovoltaic capacity for self-consumption, including a 4.6 MWp ground-mounted solar plant, which produces approximately 7 GWh of renewable electricity per year, as well as a 25 MWh battery storage system, which optimizes the use of locally generated electricity.

By coordinating these different components according to the needs of the industrial plant and its production, the project contributes to improving the performance, flexibility and resilience of its energy system, while supporting its decarbonization journey.

The celebration brought together nearly 100 guests, including representatives of Stellantis, GreenYellow and IcoEnergía (project partner), as well as stakeholders from the industrial and energy ecosystem.

During the event, GreenYellow presented the overall vision of the project and the development of the different energy solutions, while IcoEnergía addressed the challenges related to electrification and energy efficiency. The participants were then able to discover the facilities directly through a video and a technical visit to the factory. The event concluded with a moment of networking.

Diego Rivas, director of the Stellantis plant in Madrid, expressed his satisfaction with this project which, in his own words, "demonstrates the commitment of the Madrid plant to the continuous search for solutions that contribute to energy efficiency and sustainability ".

"Energy has become a strategic infrastructure for industrial performance. Together with Stellantis, we have designed a systems approach that combines energy efficiency, electrification of final uses, local production and storage, and that allows these different components to be managed according to the needs of the plant. This is precisely the definition of flexible electrification: to offer manufacturers more control and flexibility over their energy system, while accelerating their decarbonization trajectory," said Otmane Hajji, President of GreenYellow, at the event.
