Angelos has obtained the first prize in the Sports Pictures Story category for his black and white series telling the story of young migrants passionate about basketball.
Pedro Pardo, AFP journalist at the Mexico bureau, has been awarded by German prize of journalism Walter Reuter 2022 in the Photography category.
Photojournalist Amanuel Sileshi, based in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia, has been rewarded for the fifth edition of East African Photography Award (EAPA) in the Story category for his photo series “Searching for Peace Amidst Chaos”.
The 29ᵉ edition of the Bayeux Calvados-Normandy War Correspondents' Award has awarded second place in the photo category to AFP'S Yasuyoshi Chiba for his coverage of the entry into Mekele on 28 June 2021 of fighters from the Tigray Defense Force, who then recaptured the capital of this rebel province in northern Ethiopia.
AFP photographer Ernesto Benavides won first prize in the “Photography" category for "Las Heridas de Sendero Luminoso: la matanza de Lucanamarca" (The Wounds of the Shining Path: the Lucanamarca massacre). The IAPA rewarded him "for revealing, through images of extraordinary strength and deep human content, the impact of the murders of the Shining Path guerrilla group in Ayacucho, Peru, on the memory of its survivors."
