THE JOB
 

AFP news agency is looking for an experienced English-speaking reporter and editor to be based in our regional hub in Warsaw to report on Ukraine, Russia + the other CIS countries. Candidates must speak Russian, be able to write bright and engaging copy in English and have previous journalistic experience and knowledge of the region.


You will be expected to cover breaking and spot news from across the region within a network that includes AFP’s Kyiv and Moscow Bureaus as well as regional hubs in the Caucasus and Central Asia. You will also be expected to work on enterprise stories in conjunction with our teams on the ground. There will be reporting opportunities in Ukraine or Russia and a possibility of re-locating to either of those countries in future.


The role may require long working days, dictated by the news agenda, and will include working some weekends and public holidays.


You should have a keen eye for the visual aspect of coverage and coordinate with the photo, video and graphics departments. All our journalists contribute to AFP’s newsgathering process in all formats, working for the common goal of producing high-quality multimedia journalism.


You will closely monitor social media and strictly adhere to the Agency's guidelines on social media guidelines. You will contribute to the fight against misinformation by helping factcheckers in the network and ensure you are trained in the various methods of online verification.


As a rule, you commit to respecting AFP's ethics charter as well as all AFP editorial guidelines.


In an ever-changing media environment, the nature of the job could evolve in line with coverage demands and the requirements of an increasingly diverse client base.


We are offering a one-year renewable contract.

 

SKILLS REQUIRED

 

  • Excellent English writing skills
  • Excellent knowledge of Russian
  • Good knowledge of the region covered
  • Team player
  • French and/or Ukrainian language skills are a plus
  • Experience in data journalism or investigatory reporting would be a plus
