Documentation on video formats

The main formats of a video are indicated on the thumbnails or in the video viewer.

AFPTV videos come in different formats, depending on their content and how they are produced for usage by clients:

  • USAGE: Videos can be 'Editable' or 'Ready to Publish' depending on the way in which the video has been produced and how it can be used by a client.
  • CONTENT: Videos can be 'File', 'Voiced', 'NSV', 'Stockshots', 'First Images' or 'Raw' depending on the content of the video.

USAGE:

  • An ‘Editable’ video is a raw video composed of illustration images and soundbites for reediting. They make up the majority of AFPTV content and, where necessary, the letter ‘E’ indicates a ‘editable’ video.

  • A 'Ready to Publish' video is a video that may be published as it is, for example onto a website. Sequences from 'Ready to Publish' videos cannot be extracted to be edited into another video as the videos have been produced with subtitles/straps.  Sequences can, however, be extracted from NSV (Natural Sound Versions) which are the same reports, produced without commentary nor subtitles/straps. Where necessary, the letter ‘R’ indicates a 'Ready to Publish' video.

CONTENT:

File: Previously produced videos that are revalidated by AFP's newsroom when a current event makes them relevant again. These videos are always 'Editable'.
Note: if accessible to you, the metadata of such videos has the attribute ‘File’.

Voiced: Videos that have been edited, voiced and/or dubbed into a voiced report. These videos are usually  'Ready to Publish'.
Note: if accessible to you, the metadata of such videos has the attribute 'StandardVoiced'.  The slug is 'Voiced'.

NSV: 'Natural Sound Version' videos are the raw version of 'voiced' reports, edited into a report format but without any commentary/dubbing/straps. NSV videos are always 'Editable'.
Note: if accessible to you, the metadata of such videos has the attribute 'NSV (NaturalSoundVersion)'.

Stockshots: Generic illustrative videos that can be used to illustrate topics. Stockshot videos are always of the 'Editable' format.
Note: if accessible to you, the metadata of such videos has the attribute 'Stockshots'.

1st Images: Short (between 10s-1min long) videos with natural sound, quickly sent to illustrate the first images from an important event. 1st Images can be raw images or a soundbite. 1st Images can be of 'Editable' or 'Ready to Publish' format.
Note: if accessible to you, the metadata of such videos has the attribute '1stImages'.

Raw: Videos made up of raw images and soundbites. Raw videos are always of the 'Editable' format.
Note: if accessible to you, the metadata of such videos has the attribute 'Images' or ‘Soundbites’.
