AFP Photographers dominate award at International Sportfolio Festival
London-based photographer Adrian Dennis, already voted sports photographer of the year by his peers in the UK, won the gold medal in the Current Events category for his striking image of Thai rider Nina Lamsan Ligon and her horse in the equestrian cross country at the London Olympics.
His Paris-based AFP colleague Franck Fife was runner-up for his shot of the Swiss skier Marc Berthod losing his left ski as he exited a gate, and he also won the gold medal in the reportage section for a portfolio focused on the French gymnast Youna Dufournet during a training session in May last year.
France’s Olivier Morin, who works out of the agency’s Milan office, took third place in Current Events with a photograph capturing Mo Farah’s joy at winning the Olympic 5,000 metres.
Russian photographer Natalia Kolesnikova, based in AFP’s Moscow bureau, took bronze in the Action category for her image of the Russian Ksenia Afanasyeva competing on the uneven bars in the European Championships.
