Videography on the ICC rewarded at the Victoria & Albert Illustration Awards

This year, AFP was featured alongside prestigious publications including The New Yorker and The Economist.

Julie Pereira’s animation explains the role of the International Criminal Court, which investigates and prosecutes individuals responsible for acts of aggression against states and populations, including war crimes and crimes against humanity. To communicate these complex issues, Pereira created a series of simplified, universal characters representing the aggressor, the judge and the civilian.

The judges praised the animation for conveying these concepts clearly without being overly literal or unsettling. They particularly highlighted its economical use of shapes and symbolic forms to drive the narrative and make a challenging subject accessible to a wide audience.

With this award, the animation joins the permanent collection of the renowned London museum and will be displayed to the public for two years from this summer.

The project had already been recognised last year with a nomination for a News and Documentary Emmy Award, in a category ultimately won by The New York Times.
