European Journalism Center awards AFP €50,000 grant for PFAS investigation
The European Journalism Center has awarded AFP a €50,000 grant through its Journalism Science Alliance programme to support an investigation into the export of PFAS from Europe to India.
The grant will fund a multimedia field investigation by AFP journalists in New Delhi, along with editorial coordination and data visualisation. It also includes funding for a researcher specialising in PFAS, who will conduct extensive research and data analysis to help shape and guide the field reporting, as well as the development of an interactive map of PFAS pollution in India.
The investigation was initiated by AFP's former Future of the Planet editor and is now being coordinated by the agency's Asia-Pacific Planet coordinator. It is scheduled for publication in December 2026.
Ivan Couronne, Global editor, Future of the Planet at AFP, said “PFAS pollution is a global story, and so is our team. AFP’s network of journalists around the world, working together with leading scientists, can follow this story wherever it leads, up to the communities living with the consequences. Rigor is at the heart of how AFP reports, and this partnership grounds the investigation in science from the start.”
