Valérie Maltais of Canada set a new Olympic record time of 1 minute 28.771 seconds to win heat three of the women's 1,000m short track qualifiers and progress to the quarter-finals on 21 February.
Japan's Yui Sakai (1:29.824), also in heat three, was the only other qualifier to post a sub 1:30 time in the eight heats.
A new health clinic in Karta, Djibouti, opened January 30 with a ceremony featuring U.S. and Djibouti officials and people from the local community who will benefit from the clinic.
The Karta Health Clinic was built under the supervision of engineers from the U.S. Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa with funding from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
