Tennis - Monaco, Isner to meet in Houston final
Argentina's fourth-seeded Juan Monaco outlasted US qualifier Michael Russell 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 to reach the final of the $442,500 ATP US Men's Clay Court Championship, where he will play US second seed John Isner.
In the other semi-final, Isner outlasted Spanish third seed Feliciano Lopez 6-7 (5/7), 7-6 (7/4), 6-3.

Tennis - Almagro opens against Melzer in Davis Cup
Nicolas Almagro has been drawn to open holders' Spain's Davis Cup quarter-final clash against Austrian number one Jurgen Melzer here on Friday.
Melzer, ranked 21, holds a positive 2-1 record against 12th-ranked Almagro with their last clash coming last year on clay in Monte Carlo.
World number five David Ferrer will then take on Andreas Haider-Maurer having won their only previous meeting in Bastad last year.

Tennis - Berdych, Troicki open Davis Cup clash
Czech number one Tomas Berdych has been drawn against Serbian number two Viktor Troicki in the opening rubber of their Davis Cup World Group quarter-final starting here on Friday.
Berdych, ranked seventh, holds a 2-1 record against 27th-ranked Troicki but it will be the first time the pair have met on clay.

Tennis - Bartoli perseveres to beat Dushevina
Third-seeded Marion Bartoli of France persevered to get past Russian Vera Dushevina 6-2, 6-7 (3/7), 6-4 in a second-round match lasting more than three hours at the WTA's green clay Charleston tournament.
"The first game was 22 minutes long I think, so that set up the tone," Bartoli said. "The last two years I lost first round here, and I didn't want to lose again in the first set, so I really tried my hardest.

Tennis - Tomic to lead Australia against South Korea
Teenager Bernard Tomic will thrive in leading Australia's Davis Cup tie this weekend against South Korea in the absence of injured Lleyton Hewitt, captain Patrick Rafter said on Thursday.
World number 36 Tomic, aged 19, has been drawn to meet unranked Cho Min-Hyeok in Friday's opening singles, while Matthew Ebden, ranked 75, will take on Jeong Suk-Young, ranked 730th, in the second match in Brisbane.

Tennis - Seventh-seed Jankovic loses to Venus in Charleston
In a clash of former world number ones, unseeded Venus Williams toppled seventh-seeded Jelena Jankovic 7-5, 6-0 to reach the third round of the WTA's green clay Charleston tournament.
Jankovic had won her last four meetings on clay against Williams, but once the American heated up in the wake of a first-set rain delay on Wednesday, the Serbian couldn't stop her.
Jankovic served for the first set at 5-4, but Williams broke and never looked back.

Marion Bartoli of France battled more than three hours to defeat Russian Vera Dushevina and reach the third round of the WTA's green clay Charleston tournament.
Bartoli, the third seed, cruised past Dushevina 6-2 in the first set, but then had to scrap as she lost the second on the tiebreak before taking the decider 6-4.

Tennis - Williams sisters win opening matches in Charleston
Serena and Venus Williams made a successful transition to clay at the WTA Tour's Charleston tournament, easing through their opening matches with straight-set victories.
Fifth seed Serena, the 2008 Charleston champion, hammered 11 aces in overpowering last year's runner-up Elena Vesnina 6-3, 6-4 in a second-round match at the $740,000 event.

Tennis - Venus advances at Charleston
Venus Williams, bidding to build up her ranking after a lengthy lay-off in time to book an Olympic berth, reached the second round of the WTA's Charleston green clay tournament on Tuesday.
Seven-time Grand Slam champion Williams, currently ranked 87th in the world, needed 79 minutes to dispatch qualifier Iveta Benesova of the Czech Republic 6-4, 6-3.

Spain's Anabel Medina Garrigues defeated qualifier Melanie Oudin 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 Monday as the main draw action got under way at the WTA Tour's Charleston tournament.
Medina Garrigues, the 10th seed, advances to the second round of the clay court event where she will face Australia's Anastasia Rodionova who beat qualifier Melanie Czink 6-2, 2-6, 6-1.
