Spain unemployment rate shoots over 26%

MADRID (AFP)

Spain's unemployment rate surged to 26.02 percent in the final quarter of 2012, the highest level in the nation's modern history, official data showed Thursday.

The jobless rate was up from 25.02 percent in the previous quarter. The number of unemployed climbed by 187,300 people to 5.97 million, the National Statistics Institute said.
