Rain halts US Open

NEW YORK (AFP)

Heavy rain brought play to a halt at the US Open on Monday after just 90 minutes of action on the first day of the final Grand Slam event of the season.

Only four women's singles matches had been completed with defending champion Samantha Stosur safely through to the last 64 with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Petra Martic of Croatia.
