Large explosion reported in Massachusetts city

WASHINGTON (AFP)

An explosion believed to have been triggered by a gas leak ripped through downtown Springfield, Massachusetts Friday, injuring several people, local media reported.

WWLP TV said the blast destroyed two buildings in the western Massachusetts city and quoted police as saying several people were taken to local hospitals by ambulance.

It said the force of the explosion knocked some people to the ground and shattered windows in the area.
